In-Home Support Worker

Purpose

A Support Worker is responsible for providing a range of services/supports, within their scope of practice, and as directed by the Rostering Coordinators. The services/supports may be provided in the client home and or in the community. 

Scope

The Support Worker is required to provide services/supports in a respectful manner and encourage each client to participate in making decisions. Each client is to be treated with respect and enabled to be as independent as they want to be. 

Appointment 

Support Workers are employed on a casual basis. 

Reporting To

Director/Operations Manager. 

Position Requirements

Essential 
✦ Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (may be required annually). 

✦ Current First Aid Certificate. 

✦ Current CPR. 

✦ NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (when applicable). 

✦ WWCC (when applicable). 

✦ Completion of the Disability Worker (NDIS Code of Conduct) Module. 

✦ Minimum qualifications for Support Workers (excluding those employed for domestic cleaning) is Cert III, e.g.: Cert III Individual Support, Aged Care, Community Care or Disability Care. NOTE – the Director may waive this requirement on a case by case basis.

✦ Manual Handling.

Desirable 
✦ Experience in the provision of care and services to older and/or people with a disability.

✦ Understanding of OH&S.

✦ Effective communication skills. 

✦ Second language. 

✦ Current drivers Licence - Victorian.

✦ Reliable motor vehicle that is registered and fully comprehensively insured.

Physical Requirements For The Role

(This list may not reflect all physical requirements) 

✦ Driving for periods of time – upwards of 30 minutes at a time. 

✦ Operating a range of equipment, including but not limited to: vacuum cleaner, mop/bucket, wheelchairs, wheelie walkers, lifting devices such as standing machines and sling hoists (individual training may be required). This may involve lifting of limbs to position sling.

✦ Assisting clients in and out of vehicle. 

✦ Assistance with showering, drying and dressing. 

✦ Preparing meals for clients. 

✦ Making beds (usually standard beds; not height adjustable).
